Windows Live Messenger support for the Xbox 360 is currently limited to text chats only. To video chat with someone on an Xbox 360, both you and the person you want to chat with must be signed in to Xbox Live and have the Xbox Live Vision camera connected to your Xbox 360. The steps for enabling Windows Live Messenger text chats are fairly straighforward.
Sign In to Windows Messenger on your Xbox 360
1) Press the Xbox Guide button.
2) Select Chat & IM.
3) Select the Messenger tab.
4) Select Sign In. You'll be signed in to Windows Live with the Windows Live ID associated with your Xbox Live account.
How to have a Chat Conversation on your Xbox 360
1) Press the Xbox Guide button.
2) Select Chat & IM.
3) Select the Messenger tab.
4) Select New Conversation.
5) Select a contact from the list.
6) Enter a message into the chat box.
