Error 1316. A network error occurred

"You were a great help with the Error 2738. I almost got my software installed and hit error 1316. Help, any input would be great!"

Error 1316. A network error occurred while attempting to read from the file... is a frequent error message resulting from a previously failed Windows software install. If you hit this error, the easiest solution is to cleanup the mess left by the previous install before proceeding with a new install of the same software. Microsoft provides a solution to this problem for many software install failures in the form of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility.

In almost every case where Error 1316 occurs, the problem is files left over from a previous install causing a conflict with the current installation attempt. What you need to do is download the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility, which then makes it possible to properly uninstall the offending software.

You will need to install the CleanUp Utility as Administrator in order for it to properly install on Windows 7 or Windows Vista. The installed application shows up in the main application list as Windows Install Clean Up.

Launching the application allows you to choose from the list of all applications currently installed on your computer, which can be quite extensive. Locate the file you want to remove and click the Remove button to eliminate the remnants of the problem install.
