Where Have All The Podcasts Gone?

Software will save us makes a great point about the nature of using free services on the Web. If you rely on them and they go away, you're screwed. The example is made of musicians who relied on MP3.com as a way to get the word out about their music. When MP3.com went away, so did the listeners. This is the age old "who owns the customer" problem. The same thing applies to podcasting and blogging. If you are using a service like FeedBurner to generate your RSS feed and FeedBurner someday goes away, you may be left without any subscribers, or substantially fewer than you have currently. Better to keep control of the delivery mechanism to make sure you can remain connected to your audience.
