Dave Winer seems to have the mistaken notion that you need an iPod to time shift the new Internet talk radio programming currently known as Podcasts. Dave, Podcasting works with any portable device capable of playing digital music files. For the millions of users who don't have an iPod, but do own some other portable player (flash memory cards and Pocket PCs count too), I created a tutorial to make it easy to transfer music to any portable device. Admittedly, the Mac/iTunes/iPod solution is currently the most streamlined way to receive Podcasts, but I guarantee that will change quickly.
