Can you feel the HP Magic?
Posted on November 24th, 2008 by Jake under Competitions, TechIf you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!
If your idea of magic is an unbelievably awesome package of hardware, HP is definitely delivering a magical experience this holiday season. As I indicated earlier this month, I have a huge giveaway in the works. I’m participating in the HP Magic Giveaway, which is happening across 50 different blogs. Each of the 50 participating sites is giving away a massive package of HP hardware including:
HP TouchSmart IQ816 PC
HP HDX 18 series Premium Notebook PC
HP Pavilion dv4 series Entertainment Notebook PC (with Windows Live)
HP Mini 1000 (with XP)
HP MediaSmart Connect
Yes, that is one huge touch screen computer, two notebook PCs, and an HP Mini just like the one I purchased for traveling. Oh, and a Media Center Extender so you can easily access your media from your home theater. All that’s missing is the partridge in a pear tree. The rest of the package includes:
HP Photosmart C6380 Wireless AIO (printer)
HP 564 Photo Value Pak
Microsoft Office Home and Student Edition 2007 (Student-Teacher Edition) – 1 DVD with 3 licenses
Microsoft Windows Live
Corel VideoStudio X
Kung Fu Panda (2 widescreen DVDs; 1 widescreen Blu-Ray)
One lucky person will be awarded the entire package given away here. There will be a recipient at each of the other 49 sites as well. I can’t announce the particulars of how you get a chance at acquiring this sweet package yet, but one small component of the giveaway will be enticing you to pay it forward.

ooooo … You are such an awful tease. All that wonderful swag and here I am tripped up by the 49th parallel …
November 25th, 2008 at 4:22 pm
It would be a no-brainer to pay it forward with one (or 2) of the Kung-Fu Panda DVDs. Heck, I would pay it forward with 1 of the laptops (maybe 2) as well. Wouldn’t you? How many computers can 1 person actually use?

Hey Jake,
I’m subscribed to your RSS feed. Is there going to be an actual contest on Media Blab this time around or is it going to be a random drawing like last time? Either way, I still look forward to it. (I hope it’s a contest) :D

To Whom It May Concern –
I will be breaking up my prize package and giving it to my favorite non-profits (Integrity Idaho and the Idaho Hispanic Cultural Center), my church’s Baby enrichment program (St. Michael’s Episcopal Cathedral) and the Canyon County Women and Children’s Program. My hope is that each of these organizations will be able to impact best lives that are just starting or starting over.

As the geek of the family, a father of two girls, a grandfather of two more girls and the great grandfather of one boy, I am constantly trying to keep a number of old computers running with scavenged parts from others cast-offs. I joke with the kids that I it’s like trying to make chicken soup from chicken p**p. Two housewives, two students and one preschooler put a heavy demand on me that would be so much easier with this super array of equipment and I would love to replace my old dual-processor P-III 450 with that sweet touch-screen. Dream on broomstick cowboy!
November 30th, 2008 at 7:39 pm

I am an American who works for an education foundation in Indonesia that builds quality international schools for wealthier Indonesians and then redistributes that money to build two other types of schools: ones for the middle class (where funding breaks even) and village schools (where all funding comes from outside sources because the families cannot afford tuition). These are in Indonesian villages and while they are staffed with high quality Indonesian teachers, they still have very limited access to quality resources.
I would use the Magic computers to help each school level to have better opportunities at a world class education.
I would donate one laptop to a village school so that both the wealthier and the poorer schools could exchange ideas, lessons, and friendships. This would benefit both parties as the village schools would get better access to content and the wealthier students would learn more of an all too often forgotten constituency: the village poor.
The other laptop could be a mobile computer, used in training all staff in new methodology. The Mini could be a field data gathering computer in the ecogarden we are building.
Finally, I would use one computer in my class, giving my students a jump start into 21st century learning; teaching them to be content producers, not just consumers. We would create kml tours for Google Earth, blog posts, and educational videos. We could then use those and other resources that the students and teachers create to pass down to the lower schools.

Oh me-oh-my-oh, let me know how to enter. Wouldn’t a hot-shot computer be the greatest?
December 1st, 2008 at 12:36 am
Being the simple soul who wants it all, but recognizes that there is room to share this holiday season, I would love to keep the Mini…pass the Big guy to my hubbie and donate the rest to work where we have very old computers incapable of doing many things. Of course the IT guys would probably hoard them, but I am thinking in the MedSurg unit where someone needs a way to play some cool games and get on the internet when bored out of their skull sitting in a hospital bed.
