Fujitsu ScanSnap Scanner

Fujitsu ScanSnap Scanners don't generate much excitement these days. Innovations come quite slowly, with scan resolutions remaining fairly stagnant. Most of us are content with sub-$100 models from Canon and HP best suited for scanning old 4x6 photos. With a list price of $495, what makes this 600dpi scanner from Fujitsu so great? 15 pages-per-minute double-sided scanning in full color is probably the most compelling feature. Auto-detection of blank pages simplifies the process of feeding a combination of 1-sided and 2-sided documents in the same batch. Automatic straightening and aligning of text corrects mis-fed pages, saving the hassle of rescanning documents. All of these features combine to create on-the-fly PDF documents suitable for elimination of paper filing and putting the fax machine out to pasture. The scanner ships with Adobe Acrobat 6.0 Standard and CardMinder V2.0, which account for half of the product price. With the $100 rebate good until September 30, this package makes electronic document processing affordable.
