Sling Media, makers of watch your TV anywhere device Slingbox, and EchoStar (DISH), the parent company of DISH Network, recently announced the acquisition of Sling Media by EchoStar. Slingbox, the primary product of Sling Media, is used to view television from any cable or satellite company anywhere on the planet, which means EchoStar will now be enabling competitor's customers to have greater access to competitor's services. I'm hoping this also means EchoStar will leverage existing content deals from partners like HBO, Showtime, Starz, etc. and make them available in interesting ways to Slingbox customers - effectively bypassing the need for those services directly through a traditional set top box.
