A photo collection documenting faded advertisements painted buildings throughout the United States. I've often thought it would be interesting for Des Moines to make a project of restoring some of the faded images left on the few old buildings we still have, but if that won't happen, at least someone is documenting their existence, as the ads look now. In the future, people can compare snapshots of this mostly forgotten art as it devolves into oblivion. The artist behind the photos,Frank H Jump, has an interesting story. Diagnosed HIV-positive in 1984, he was given only a few years to live; his desire to capture the fading ads of the US stemmed from his own sense of urgency about his own expected fade from existence.
