Just A Geek
Out of necessity, I'm extending the September Forum posting through the end of this week. Due to circumstances beyond my control it's quite possible a glitch may have prevented everyone from having an equal chance at getting registered, so we're running the promo for a few more days. The new and final qualification date is October 10. This qualifies you for a chance at one of the three Ulead apps mentioned in the sidebar as well as giving you one last chance to make a few more posts toward the SnapStream bundle of goodies (the new version of their software is even better than the current Beyond TV 3, btw). All posts made in the month of October qualify for the Creative MuVo and two free audio books donated by Audible.com too. And if you aren't the lucky forum poster in September, there will be plenty more prizes in the coming months.
Wil Wheaton fans should definitely keep an eye on PMCmovies.com over the next few days. Wil graciously released his Gnomedex speech under a Creative Commons license and I captured the whole thing on video. For those not familar with Wil, he's a regular geek with a passion for Linux, open source software, and many of the same things that make people like me driven to know more about technology, who just happened to spend a few years as part of the cast on Star Trek TNG. Gnomedex was my first opportunity to meet him. Fame aside, Wil's a kindred spirit in the world of geeks.
As for the video, Wil's personal stories resonate with a human quality you can't help but find endearing and his writing and speaking are captivating in a way that makes you want to find out what happens next. The 320x240 WMV version will appear first, but I'll also post a full screen MPEG-4 version just as soon as I get the raw footage optimized. For those that couldn't attend, Wil read from his book Just A Geek (which I reviewed in July) and added an additional entry from Dancing Barefoot (which I review below). At some point, the entire Gnomedex audio stream will be available from ITConversations, which is also the home of tons of interviews and live conference streams featuring many of the people I admire in the tech industry.
