With the month of January 2006 officially over, it's time to announce the Xbox 360 recipient and the four recipients of Amazon gift certificates. Glen Stansbury from Lockergnome.com was at the top of the referrals by a narrow margin. Bubba of bubba-nosferatu.blogspot.com (Not Safe For Work) came in second, a few hundred referrals short. The top five are rounded out with Jack of MobilityToday.com, Major Nelson of MajorNelson.com and David at eHomeUpgrade.

The thing I find most interesting about this whole process is how everyone got to where they are in the standings. Glen at Lockergnome linked to about a dozen articles with very high relevance to the Lockergnome audience. The actual page about the giveaway being among the worst performing links from a referral perspective. Bubba linked only to the Xbox 360 giveaway page and to the front page of jakeludington.com. MobilityToday.com linked to one article relevant to their audience. All the traffic from Major Nelson was directly related to the giveaway and eHomeUpgrade.com linked to several articles. What's most interesting about this is a blog that typically posts links to adult photos (Bubba-Nosferatu) and doesn't register on any of the major traffic metrics (Alexa, Technorati, IceRocket etc) managed to rack up referral stats on par with Lockergnome and the re-branded Dave's iPaq (MobilityToday), both popular tech sites.
